I know firsthand how unexpected health situations can wreack havoc on family finances because as the youngest of four, we were devastated in 1982 when my father had a massive heart attack at age 40 and had a heart transplant. Later that year, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She was the first person in our family to have cancer.  She was only 42.
